Mr McCarthy qualified in 1992 from the Royal London Hospital. His basic surgical training was completed at St Bartholomews Hospital London in 1996, followed by General and Vascular surgical training in the South West of England in 2004. He completed an MS degree with the University of Bath in 2004. He was awarded the FRCS Gold Medal on completion of surgical training (2004). He was appointed as a consultant vascular surgeon in 2005.
Mr Robert McCarthy is an experienced Consultant Vascular Surgeon based in Exeter and Torquay, Devon. He works in the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and Torbay Hospital. His speciality is vascular disease, which includes aneurysms (aortic and peripheral), carotid endarterectomy and stroke prevention, Lower limb bypass for peripheral vascular disease, Varicose vein interventions (endovenous therapy and surgery) and Diabetic foot conditions.
His extensive experience and knowledge and has written several articles on vascular surgery. He is the local lead for National aneurysm screening programme and served as the Royal College of Surgeon Tutor for 6 years and TPD for core surgical training for 1 year.
