Mr Nicholls qualified in 2011 from the University of Wales and undertook his Foundation and Core surgical training in South East Wales. He was awarded a National Training Number for Vascular Surgery in 2015 on the highly regarded South West of England rotation followed by admission as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2021. Upon completion of his training he undertook a yearlong endovascular fellowship focusing on complex aortic aneurysm repair at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. He began his Consultant career in Gloucester before returning to Wales and Cardiff where he now works in the South East Wales Vascular Network.
Mr Nicholls has a wide and varied NHS practice with experience in treating the full spectrum of vascular conditions. He has further developed his skill set to offer minimally invasive treatments for his patients including those with aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease and varicose veins.
Aside from his clinical interests he has active research interests in both vascular and cardiovascular medicine with numerous international publications and presentations. He is currently the Principal Investigator in South East Wales for a national varicose vein research study. He is also a GMC recognised trainer with teaching experience in varicose vein treatments including endovenous ablation (laser and radiofrequency) and foam sclerotherapy.
Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his young family, walking his dog and playing golf badly!
