Miss Vriens trained as a medical student for BSc, MSc, and MD at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After graduating as a Doctor of Medicine in 2003 she performed her general surgical training at high volume units in Belgium and The Netherlands under Prof. van Hee and Prof. Geelkerken. She followed her vascular and endovascular surgical training at the University Medical Centrum Groningen under Prof. Zeebregts. Miss Vriens has been a Consultant Surgeon since 2013 and undertook an additional endovascular post-CCT fellowship at St George’s Hospital, London under Prof. Thompson.
She performed and passed international vascular and endovascular exams which made her a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a fellow of the European Vascular and Endovascular Society.
Miss Vriens has been an established Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Colchester and Ipswich University Hospitals since 2016. She has been Clinical Audit Lead, M & M Lead and is currently the Clinical Director of the AAA screening program.
Miss Vriens has extensive experience in both arterial and venous surgery. Her practice involves emergency and elective management of aneurysms, carotid disease, fistula procedures, peripheral arterial disease and venous disease including ulcers.
She has a special interest in the surgical and minimally invasive treatment of patients with circulation problems due to blockages in the arteries of the legs (PAD) or diabetic patients. Besides that she also has a wide experience with the minimally invasive treatment of aorta aneurysms (EVAR).
Miss Vriens has been treating varicose veins with minimally invasive treatment methods since their early days. She performs pinhole treatment of varicose veins with radiofrequency, laser ablation, foam sclerotherapy, micro avulsions and microsclerotherapy.
She aims for optimal results by working closely with patients and provides them with up to date and high standards of clinical care. Miss Vriens also has an interest in the teaching of surgical trainees and published and presented scientific research results at national and international levels. Her results are excellent and recorded in the National Vascular Registry.
During her childhood and as a medical student Miss Vriens was also a top-level gymnast. Nowadays she enjoys skiing, sailing, cooking, travelling and spending time with family.
