Dr Mathias is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist working at NHS Lanarkshire and based in Hairmyres Hospital. He specialises in all aspects of interventional radiology with an interest in vascular interventions and venous disease in particular.
He grew up in the Middle East, did his medical and surgical training in India before moving to the UK in 1999. He continued further training, obtaining the FRCS degree from Edinburgh. He then worked at the Royal Brompton and Harefield trust, one of the largest cardiovascular units in the UK for a year, where he developed an interest in Interventional Radiology. To pursue this field, he completed his training in Diagnostic Radiology at Newcastle upon Tyne and then obtained further specialist training by doing a 2-year fellowship in Interventional Radiology in Glasgow, Scotland.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR), the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRSE) and the Society of Interventional Radiologists (SIR). He has published papers and presented posters at national and international meetings.
When not at work, his hobbies include reading, history, music, especially instrumental guitar and spending time with family and friends.
