Varicose veins are a common problem, affecting up to 1 in 3 adults in their lifetime. They are usually a sign of an underlying venous insufficiency.
Thread veins can appear anywhere on the body but are mostly evidenced on the legs and face. They are more common than varicose veins, affecting up to 80% of adults.
Leg ulcers appear as broken skin in the lower leg or feet. We have been successfully treating venous leg ulcers for over 20 years.

Dr Leto Mailli is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at St George’s Hospital and a Senior Honorary Lecturer at St George’s University of Medicine in London. She has completed her Interventional Radiology fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital of London. She has also undergone exams to become a certified specialist throughout Europe, gaining her the EBIR title.
Leto also holds a PhD, MsC and Masters in interventional radiology. She was awarded 4 funded grants for research and training. Apart from being a senior honorary lecturer she is also the lead for undergraduate radiology at St George’s University of Medicine, thus heavily involved with teaching.
Leto has been invited as a moderator, speaker and trainer in international conferences and has given more than 100 lectures at national and international events. She is also active in publishing in scientific journals and being a co-investigator in several research trials.
In regards to her clinical activities and interests, she is heavily involved with trauma and is currently the lead interventional radiologist for major trauma in this big, busy trauma centre. This involves setting pathways, raising awareness, auditing and optimising the quality of IR trauma service.
Apart from trauma, she is particularly interested in innovative endovascular treatments for both arterial and venous diseases (ranging from varicose veins to complex peripheral and visceral arterial interventions). She has been a co-investigator in several trials associated with innovative peripheral vascular interventions while she has also been invited as an instructor in international conferences.
Gynaecologic interventions is another area of interest (e.g. pelvic congestion syndrome, fibroids, postpartum haemorrhage) where she is active both clinically and research-wise. She has published her series on postpartum haemorrhage and recently on imaging findings following fibroid embolisation. She has been invited to international conferences to moderate and as a lecturer while she also contributes as co-investigator in a large multicentre randomised control trial in regards to fibroids, across the UK.
As Leto has recently become a mum, she spends the majority of her free time with her little daughter. As a former active person, she now keeps on cycling with a babysit, hike with a baby carrier backpack but is still not sure how to get back to her free diving.
“I am one of the lucky consultants to have received training from Dr David West, a pioneer in innovative endovascular treatments for varicose veins and the founder of Veincentre.
I am also very pleased that I have been selected to be one of the consultants working at Veincentre. I love working at Veincentre as they are very serious and professional with the service they provide. They have been in the market for years and they are getting better and better every year as their main focus is to offer the best service possible. I find that they are offering a great balance between being seriously professional and also very friendly, helpful and passionate for both the patients that they serve but also their personnel.
For me as a consultant, I feel reassured as they have all the safety and quality measures required to operate at a high standard (eg clinical governance, auditing, international presence etc).
The success though is in details such as having a friendly warm greeting and really caring for their patients and employees.”
