At Veincentre, we specialise in walk-in, walk-out treatments that allow you to return to your daily routine the same day. We’re here to ensure you have all the information you need for a smooth recovery journey. This guide will walk you through what to expect before, during, and after treatment to help you feel confident and prepared.
Your recovery experience will depend on the type of treatment you’ve had. At Veincentre, our consultants specialise in minimally invasive procedures, such as Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA). This approach ensures reduced recovery times and a quick return to your daily routine.
Recovery times vary depending on the procedure, but most patients return to their normal activities straight away. Full healing may take a few weeks, but if you previously experienced symptoms such as pain, heaviness, or swelling, noticeable improvement in these symptoms is often immediate.
Over the first couple of weeks, you may experience some bruising, tightness, or tenderness which will gradually subside. Bruising can be particularly extensive around the vein treated with EVLA and usually resolves in 2-3 weeks. In a small number of cases, symptoms following ablation can take longer to subside. There can be minor oozing on the dressings applied over the pin-hole skin access for the laser fibre.
Most patients will see a mixture of lumpy treated veins and some residual varicose veins when they initially take off their stockings. The EVLA treatment is designed to deal with the underlying cause and may reduce the size of the varicose veins but the visible varicose veins need to be treated with sclerotherapy treatment which is usually required at least one treatment at the time of the EVLA and/or at follow-up appointment, How long off work after varicose vein surgery: Typically, patients can return to work the same or the following day after treatment. However, if your job involves high-intensity physical work or long periods of standing or sitting, a short break from work may be more appropriate.
How soon can I drive after EVLA? You can drive the following day.
If you are feeling worried or unsure at any stage of your recovery, please don’t hesitate to contact Veincentre. Our experienced consultants are here to support you every step of the way and provide the reassurance and guidance you need.
